Walking Tours in the Area of the Games
Following the 2008 games in Beijing and the huge success of Team GB there has been much interest among Londoners and visitors to London who are eager to learn more about the plans for the London games in 2012.
Tour description
The tour leads you along the industrial Lower River Lea valley. You will follow a tow path and see one of the old locks. The tour then leads to a footpath through the area of the Olympic park, where there are views of the 2012 construction site. Our guide will take you to a viewing point where the Olympic stadium site and other 2012 venues can be seen. (Please note that members of the public are not allowed access to the construction site).
You will hear all about the plans for the construction and learn of the games and the competitors. Crucial to London’s successful 2005 bid for the games was the legacy of this area and you will learn about the plans for the future of the site after 2012. This is a massive project, reclaiming 2.5 sq. kilometers of contaminated land and transforming it into a new and vital area of London for the 21st century – creating at the same time one of the largest new urban parks in Europe in 150 years.
